Labyrinth of Time

October 28, 2010 POEM
Labyrinth of Time
Labyrinth of velvet soft chants, stay Dwell in my heart like a baby Carnival of childhood, teacher Of truth beyondCities, hold me
When I have missed Big Dipper and Roller coaster fun,my wail reached Your deepening rites, and I Remembered I’m but dust and too
Fragile like the leaves falling on Your hands. There you were on clouds In caves, rocks, chipped snows, and rain Showeringfountains over me
My stories are my flesh, an Incense that would lift you - fly, run You.Be drumbeats of Kilimanjaro Let you, climb the Horse of Troy
Around and around let go, let my Tongue moan the maze in your heart Trace vein, muscles of mountains Where you kneel and etch those lips
Engraved on chest of blest nations I do cherish who you could be Longed your breath in wind of grace Every time I glide a kite or
Fire a gun, or kneel beside the dead All of me is Yours - Red, ripe, grapes and mist of Dawn, cup of eternal blood
Flexa simulacrum of walls Between labyrinths crumble Crumble before time…

Global Trend: Sharing

The age of busy workers and collaboration come with this age of global literacy.

Compare when man started to learn how to read and write, to today's computer age. The earth is better now. Those lives before today, lived and died accountable for this new generation.

The earth revolves and won't stop until an Almighty hand holds it up and grips it halt. Time reveals to humans - changes and beauty in every change. There is no need to fight, and call for wars: life must support life. Out with cannibalism, in with "I Share" for global unity!

Today man does not fight against man, but man defends himself against nature and unseen natural circumstances (calamities, sickness, accidents, etc.) that could destroy man.

Today's trend is not popularity but unity. Some call it collaboration, communities, strength in numbers or sharing, among others.

Modern technology brings cell phones, iPads, iPods, notebooks, wireless connections, new and better gadgets to cope up with a new …

The Act of Contrition: On Dying

The Dying

There is no denial to death. It will come like a thiefin the night. And when this happens, one must be ready to meet the Father God and leave love ones on earth for a while. This is not to make things horrible and curtail the present life undertakings, but it is seeingthat something better would come to all eternally.
Being prepared for deathis being reminded of roles in life.Having worked and working for loved ones and communities is a step forward going to some point of leaving. In any form, anyone has to be calm to make an exit gracefully.
From an ESL book “Express Yourself” questions are raised to students, and teachers have to prepare profoundanswers:What would you do if you had one year to live? How about if you had only six months? How about if you had only one week? The questions are teasing but quite serious because “What if?”How about you what would be your answers?
Questions like “How do you prepare for death?” comes up with interesting answers. “I have death pr…

Loyalty: The Vital Virtue

Loyalty:The Vital Virtue

“Leadership” by Rudolph Giuliani with Ken Kurson exhorts helpful true-to-life stories leading people and inspiring them.
Once wanting to be a priest or doctor back in college, Rudolph W. Giuliani was elected the 107th mayor of the City of New York in 1993.Prior to becoming mayor, he had been Associate Attorney General, the third highest position in the United States Department of Justice, a position left in 1983 to become US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.Hew was voted Time’s “2001 Person of the Year.”
“My mother exerted tremendous influence on my education. She loved to teach,” says Giuliani.
The author’s experiences brought him to fulfilling his dreams, and inspiring/supporting people, especially those he worked with.
One of Giuliani’s lessons as a leader, tells the quotation from Thomas De Quincey“If once a man indulges himself in murder, very soon he comes to think little of robbing; and from robbing; he comes next to drinking and…

On Leadership (A Book Review on "Leadership" by Giuliani with Ken Kurson

“Leadership” by Rudolph W. Giuliani with Ken Kurson (A Book Review)

Leaders leave a mark. What sets them apart to “just being followers” is courage.Good leaders set a good example, in every way so others would get to their goals, too.Good leaders inspire and are never ashamed how they share with those who are weak and poor; hence, encourage everyone to do the same.Good leaders build a brick of progress for all people. They try to consider they are the crowd and the time of leadership a great responsibility and duty to God and service to fellowmen.
Rudolph Giuliani with Ken Kurson write about business and leadership, in a book titled “Leadership,” published by Miramax Books, New York.
The book uncovers and illustrates that larger principles requires vision and process. The leader needs to believe in the dream he envisions even though the dream might seem very unlikely, given the current reality.
Giuliani leads by example. The most effective leader are the ones who allow people to thrive unencum…

On Influence (October 21)

ART.
On Influence
(A Book Review:Becoming A Person of Influenceby John C. Maxwelland Jim Dornan)

Who are the persons you are likely to follow? When are you influenced? Why do people get influenced?
These are a few questions that everyone asks.
Daily living raises tradition, family, friends, school and workplaces a stage of formation to individuals and groups.Like the “in-thing” in fashion, culture, music, literature, and technology; influence creeps on collective thoughts.
According to Maxwell and Dornan, “Influence grows by stages, and each one’s influence are in varied levels.”First, you become a model. Then you motivate.Next you become a mentor. Then you multiply.
Quotes were gathered from successful people in and out the limelight.
Baseball legend Jackie Robinson noted, “A life isn’t significant except for its impact on other’s lives.”
Positive influence adds value to other people. If you are a person of integrity, people will see an example/model in you. “Integrity commits itself to character …

October Rosary Month

The Virgin Mary in her different names, state of grace, and miracles are shown in a Marian exhibit held this October, 2010 at the Mall of Asia in the Philippines.
Radio Veritas 846 and the Department of Education with supporters and sponsors highlight this event for October Rosary Month.
The Rosary is a form of prayer and devotion depicting life scenes of Jesus Christ (Mysteries of Christ’s life:Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, Luminous) the time he was born till the time he died, and his resurrection. In the rosary Mother Mary intercedes and prays with the people of God.
Prayers of priests and the religious beg for intentions of families/communities; and peace in the land and the whole world.
In some areas, October Rosary month culminates with stations on blocks where people pray together on the streets.Parents, children, andhelpers pray the rosary together everyday for the whole month. On the month end, in some parishes – a special program is dedicated to …

Review: The Fanboys

Have you heard about the Fanboys? Did you miss them in your English classes? Here are six easy rules to remember the comma and the semi-colon.

1. A coordinate conjunction is a linking word that connects words, phrases or clauses that are similar in grammatical structure.

The two words that are connected by the conjunction (for, and, nor, but, yet, so, or) are of equal status. (FANBOYS)

2. A clause is a group of words that has both a subject and a verb. The independent clause can stand alone as a sentence; it has a complete thought.

3. Rule of the comma -

When two independent clauses are joined by one of the FANBOYS, you place a comma before the FANBOY. The group of words preceding and following the FANBOY must be independent clauses. Each must express a complete thought.

Example: Norie went online early, for she knew there would be lots to read.

Rose writes poems, and Juvy renders speeches.

Do not use a comma before the FANBOY if the word group following the FANBOY is NOT an independe…

Ringo Starr: Going Back Liverpool

I'm a Beatles follower. Way back, I never thought I would go this far - but I'm here finding my muse with their gift of songs. Their genius amuses me.

I live on Liverpool Street, Philippines. My lucky number is 64. I am an ordinary writer. I grew up listening to the "Beatles" songs even I'm out their generation. My high school classmates adored them and my uncles had their jingles memorized. Later, when I taught ESL, my foreign students (both young and old) sang their songs. Their songs were considered valuable in English history.

Let me define Beatles' Art.

The Beatles genius' is a showcase of music, instruments, and song poems. The songs are easy but forceful. Mostly, they're about love and life, but something that carries mystery to the senses. The lyrics of their songs are crafted like stars spreading on the sky at night and like original nursery rhymes in unique form and structure. The melody lasts and fits a wide range of tunes and instruments b…

What Words Would I Use?

October 1, 2010
Clarity:What Words Would I Use?
Write sentences for clarity!
English teachers aim at this. And then, know more words everyday: five, ten, oras many as you like. That will be good for memory work.
I love words.I have tried to invent and explore their meanings. There were times I used one word again and again. Tongue exercise, memory exercise, and playing with words were just fun for me.Iremind my students about this.
1. Remember the Kiss Theory in writing a sentence: “Keep it simple stupid.” (Sorry for the negative word, but that is the acronym.)
Perhaps, we all come to this mistake. As no one can be grammar-perfect, editing and reviewing texts are reminders how one can make better sentences.
2. Adjectives and adverbs must be used appropriately and as needed in creating picture words. This applies when using the descriptive form of discourse (factual information in describing objects).
3. Oftentimes, wordiness is just awkwardness.Readers will find it easier when the texts are concis…
