More Writing Modes

Writing is an essential skill that everyone must learn, like Math, like Science. The basics of writing is, of course, learning a language and knowing how to read. Writing improves through knowing Basic English Grammar rules, a wide range of vocabulary, and constant reading and practice.

But then, just write and do the editing later. Expressing yourself is writing freely, first. Learn new words, make phrases, then sentences, then paragraphs. Soon you'll be surprised, you've written something meaningful!

Check this:

1.The Summary
When you make a summary, do not forget the important details. Usually, when you do this, you retain the structure and point of view of the original. You can reflect from the words as you find them, but use your own words, and not those of the original author (except when quoting necessarily). Set yourself a word limit (500 words, 250 words, or 100).

A summary is also called a condensation, or the precis.

A Gift Box of More Writing Tips

Before magazines called me to be a writer, I really wanted to be one. When my father died, fate gave me another turn of paths which I had to follow. Perhaps, it is etched in my fate, too, that I get to pass another bumpy road: something extraordinary, but special. As to how I turned to choose writing as my profession, comes with the beautiful gift box of life so sweet and sacred like manna from heaven.

So here are some tips:

Yellow Box:

1.  Make sure the information is original and with authentic details. They must be accurate and interesting.
2. There should be something significant in the article. Like when you re-read or check your work ask yourself: Did I say/write something significant here?
3. Find a fresh angle or style to write your article. Read other writers, but develop your own.
4. Consider your readers. What is appropriate for a bunch of audience? Where's the article supposed to be classified.
5. Check your paragraph structure. Your paragraphs must be logical and coh…

When We Ask God For Mercy

The earth was created, and therefore it lives with us. God gives us a gift of life, and we are the masterpieces of his mighty, but tender hand. Our ancestors and us now (both the living and dead) would always be home with God. Then heaven will be our final stop, so we could kiss our Father's face and rest in our eternal home.

We have all made visions and stuff about life, knowledge, nature, and our Creator; and one thing that unites us most is love. That love is from one universal God, who is the true Father of all.

God can never be evil, as he is omnipotent and true. The truth can never be ugly because it comes from a pure heart, full of love and concern. Concern is a result of loving someone. When we admonish someone, we love him/her.

Everyone has gifts to share. Even our knowledge and beliefs are of various degrees, but it is only in love that we understand each other. We share because we love.

We work because we love.
We serve because we love.
We discipline because we love.

The Boy Who Carried the Sack of Rice

What do you carry?

Books, food, or extra pair of shoes are inside your bag, and many other things.

We all carry a lot. Thank God for the stuff we carry.

This morning though, I saw a boy around 17 or 18 years old. He was carrying a sack of rice on his back.

Perhaps he was working. I assumed he was a boy to deliver rice to people and households, who were ordering from nearby villages. He had no bike, no van ride, no cart. He was just walking. Poor boy!

For awhile he stood there at the corner, and maybe he was waiting for someone. Maybe he was resting. My reporters instinct prodded me to ask him questions, but I didn't attempt because I felt I would be disturbing him at work. Instead, what I did was to stare at him from head down to his slippers. I couldn't avoid touching his arm, and said "Can you carry it?

And he answered "Yes."

Then I distanced myself. The boy might be wondering. "Who is this woman? Why would she ask me?"

Until now, the boy's figu…

Poems: Some Poetry Thoughts

Poems give light to pleasure in words. I don't know what poets like it for, but as I practice my poetry every word comes alive, while I diffuse myself to that which lay before me.

From a burnt wood, from the slivers of time, from the gusty wind of waves,
how from heart unto heart life could feel and see, believe the hum of seasons,
touch the blossom of sun, face the whip of tide, thou receive the mercy of Allah.

Thought:

In poems the hands are filled with abounding grace
In those times they're denied the sweetness of flesh
The hands and grip are never releasing
Until something blooms from stars, the clouds drop rain
And refresh seeds for a harvest.

Check these beautiful poem lines from Master Poets. Each one can give a thought by expressing a feeling on the poem. It is not exactly to summarize it, but explicate the images that create sensations. Moreover, critics relate the poems to other significant literary texts. Express your thoughts!

The Basic Rules of Society: Don't Be A Mean Guy

How could we tell others "Don't be a mean guy"?

(Guy in this article signifies men and women of all ages.)

If we'd do that some would throw back negative words in return, some would be in a stage of denial, and some would say "Yes," and that is right.

Life matters to most of us, but in a society full of concerns, there are times, we forget to be good to others. We forget we have to be prudent, we forget to be humble and must serve and love each other. That happens often.

I do not write this article to glorify myself. I am writing the articles to stir thoughts, I pray for good thoughts and positive acts for everyone.

Most of the time I look up to old people who have lived meaningful lives. I try to profit from the good things they had done, and I try not to do the negative actions that might happen again. I am aware that when people grow old, they grow with grace, with love, and with wisdom. They have lived for others like their families, friends, workplace…

ESL: Learning and Teaching New Words

Teachers have their own styles as to how students could adapt to the lessons.

As an ESL teacher to some foreign students of different native tongues, I just would recall how I learned English as my second language.

Usually, my teachers asked me to write sentences using new words and idioms. We checked them in the class. My classmates edited the sentences, and only asked the teacher if there was an ambiguity. That was in high school. In college though, it was fast (it depends upon the course). Most lessons were review of Basic English. After college/university graduation, I had to read more to become a writer (my course was not related to writing). I have to learn again (on my own), and study English in bulk and in tons.

When I started teaching ESL to foreign students (as to level), I tried to make them most familiar with common words. Some new learners of English used difficult and unfamiliar words. This will not be very helpful. Before anybody could use a difficult word, he/she must…
