The Article Writing Process

Article writing is flooding online.

Whereas before, article writing could only be learned in schools and work places; and articles could only be read in books, newspapers, and magazines, among others.

Just anyone can learn how to write an article by trying to talk about a subject and/or a topic. Of course, facts must be gathered first from different sources like interviews, surveys, and research.

It is impossible to write something that you do not know and you aren’t interested about. If so, your articles will not be interesting because readers need a lot of meat and materials to be entertained or to learn something about.

Articles are written differently for specific audiences and specific purposes. You have to know what you are writing, and who you are writing for. What is your goal? Or are you just trying to please your readers? No, you cannot please readers; but you can always offer your ideas. It’s like offering a product for sale. It’s like offering a resume for a job. It’s like putting up a show that may help readers in some way, maybe make them laugh or cry, or sympathize or think, or just share.

After the facts have been gathered, you need to make an outline or a draft. Develop your article topic supported by the facts as your evidence. Make striking beginning and ending paragraphs. In the middle paragraphs: you can group or order facts, narrate, define, exemplify, or compare. Relate your article to popular culture, history, another literary work, news update, a teaching experience, a study, or an inspiration. You can use a bit of quotations from different experts, writers and books with regard to your theme.

Try this:

Write about people. People are a favorite topic to write about. These include character sketches, autobiographies and biographies, among others, about the different roles people play in life. One writer says, “Say nothing but the good of the dead.”

Write about places. Every place in the world has its unique smell. The smell describes culture, people, and time. Take for example nature or war aftermath. Also, the life of Thoreau in his solitude, Afred Kazin’s mother in the kitchen, and Iran during a war are themes describing places.

Write about events. Events are the special and ordinary celebrations of life. In world history, each country celebrates occasions of New Year, Christmas, and special holidays. Readers are interested at these features.

What happens, how it happens, who does it, where it takes place are details and unique ideas that compose the article writing process.

The article writing process explores, like loving your subject seriously. After the writing process you will feel well and complete. Finally, you have to edit/check and revise.
