I have met and interviewed Philippine's respectable National Artists like, Nick Joaquin, Levi Celerio, Ma'am Ivi..., Arturo Luz, among others. Ma'am Edith Tiempo and all the other awardees raised no questions coming from different sectors of the writing community, but now this 2009 is mourning for this award. Many artists,writers, poet, painters...wouldnt approve of Pres Arroyo's appointment, where she isn't part of the circle. It is simple Math and Science, If she's not a doctor -- she couldn't just appoint the best doctor because she doesnt know the code of ethics and the canons.
What would be good for her is to appoint or check better government officials for better governance and procedures where public service is concerned. The government has to give quick beneficial results to ease the life of the Filipinos.
Where is freedom of the press here?
Most of the time, people around the world mock us for low ideals - can't we reach higher for better standards in humility and truth with dignity?
I could vote for Larry Alcala rather than Caparas.
